Welcome back to The Movievaures! It’s that magical time of year again when holiday lights twinkle, Mariah Carey graces every playlist, and we settle in for some of the cheeziest, feel-good movies of the season. There’s something oddly comforting about these films—despite their predictable plots, over-the-top acting, and often questionable production quality, they never fail to leave us with warm hearts and festive vibes.

To kick off our Christmas movie series, we’re starting with Twas the Text Before Christmas. This movie is everything you expect from a holiday guilty pleasure: lighthearted, cheesy, and bursting with that quintessential American Christmas charm. So, let’s dive in!

Addie, a cautious New Yorker with a career as a chiropractor, finds herself spending Christmas away from her family when they travel abroad. Out of the blue, she receives a text from Nana, a grandmother in Vermont who mistakenly sends Addie a holiday message. The two strike up an unexpected friendship, and before long, Addie is invited to spend Christmas with Nana’s family.

This decision is far from Addie’s usual safe approach to life, but the promise of a warm holiday in Vermont is too tempting to resist. Once there, she is charmed by Nana’s idyllic family Christmas, complete with her kind (and very handsome) son, James. Over the years, this chance encounter turns into a cherished tradition, and Addie begins to see James in a new light. Could this holiday magic lead to a new family and maybe even love?

Let’s be honest—this isn’t a high-budget masterpiece. From the occasionally questionable acting to the predictable twists, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a made-for-TV Christmas movie. But somehow, this only adds to its charm. The small-town aesthetic, festive decorations, and feel-good music set the perfect holiday atmosphere.

I’ve forgotten how sensational these types of movies are during the holiday season. Let’s face it—they’re often full of bad acting, unbelievable plots, and a certain “budget” aesthetic. But that’s exactly what makes them such a guilty pleasure!

Watching Twas the Text Before Christmas with my husband was a blast. Yes, it was predictable and, at times, downright silly. But it was also fun, positive, and brimming with the kind of Christmas cheer that warms your heart. It’s the kind of movie that embraces the idealized American Christmas fantasy—snow-covered streets, heartfelt family moments, and a love story that feels straight out of a fairy tale. If you’re looking for a film that will make you laugh, cringe, and feel all warm and fuzzy inside, this is it. It’s not high art, but it’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.

Twas the Text Before Christmas is a delightful start to the season of cheesy holiday movies. It’s predictable, over-the-top, and entirely unrealistic—but that’s exactly why we love it. Sometimes, you just need a story that makes you smile and reminds you of the magic of Christmas.
