Welcome, My Movievaures! Today, we’re diving into Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest superhero comedy from Marvel Studios. This film brings together two of Marvel’s most iconic and beloved characters in a wild, irreverent adventure. Expectations were high for this crossover—did it hit the mark or fall flat? Let’s find out.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the film follows Deadpool as he is pulled from his quiet life by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Partnering with a reluctant Wolverine, they embark on a journey to save Deadpool’s universe.

Development for a third Deadpool film began at 20th Century Fox in 2016, but plans were put on hold following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019. Marvel Studios took control of the character, and Ryan Reynolds continued to spearhead the project, ensuring that the film would maintain the irreverent humor and over-the-top violence that fans love. The film blends Deadpool’s characteristic humor with Wolverine’s gritty persona, creating a dynamic and often hilarious partnership.

Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 22, 2024, and was released in the United States on July 26. It has grossed over $438 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Critics have generally praised the film for its humor, action sequences, and the chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman. However, some noted that the plot was thin and the humor occasionally excessive.

They did it—they managed to make a movie on Deadpool with Wolverine that actually works! If you’re wondering whether they preserved Logan’s incredible ending and conclusion from Logan (2017)… well, yes and no. This new version of Logan is supposed to be the worst, but I’d say it’s quite good because Hugh Jackman manages to keep it that way.

I was afraid it was going to be a disaster, but I had a great time. I still enjoy most of Deadpool’s jokes, even the ones that are on the nose. However, it always seems, even since the first movie, that the goal is to show how darker, meaner, and gorier it is than any character in the MCU. Sometimes, it’s too much—especially the sex jokes. But I laughed most of the time.

Of course, they needed to add the multiverse and the TVA, but it makes sense and the idea was also to criticize the overuse of it, which we can all agree on. Anyways, this was a good surprise, even for those who disliked the first two movies, so I recommend it.

In short, Deadpool & Wolverine delivers a chaotic, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt adventure that fans of both characters will enjoy. What did you think of the new movie?
