Welcome back, My Movievaures ! If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the adventures of D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers, the wait is over. Les Trois Mousquetaires: Milady is the highly anticipated sequel to “D’Artagnan,” and it doesn’t disappoint. Let’s get to the non-spoilers part :

The story picks up with D’Artagnan, who witnesses the abduction of Constance Bonacieux. In a desperate quest to save her, he forms an uneasy alliance with the mysterious Milady de Winter. Meanwhile, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are already on the battlefield as war breaks out. A haunting secret from the past shatters old alliances.

Directed by Martin Bourboulon, this Franco-Germano-Hispano-Belgian production weaves a tale of love, betrayal, and intrigue. The action is intense, the plot twists are unpredictable, and the camaraderie among the Musketeers is palpable. I do disagree with most of the feedback saying this second movie doesn’t live up to the first one. There is no element of surprise indeed, but with the characters and relationships set we can now focus on the intrigue and it is a good one.

Early reviews indicate a positive response, with Allociné giving it an average rating of 3.3/5, based on 36 press reviews. Rotten Tomatoes echoes this sentiment with a solid 90% score and an average rating of 7/10 from 20 press titles. Indeed, this will probably not be the most memorable movie ever, but still it has its moments and the most important part: you’ll have a good time at the theatres (for all my French Movievaures of course, for the others you’ll need to wait a bit for the streaming release).

In short, “Milady” holds its own against the first part. While the action scenes could be tidier, the overall style and the portrayal of friendship are commendable. Of course, Eva Green is one the highlights of this movie and the dark twist by the end adds depth to this character. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am eagerly anticipating part threeWhether you’re a fan of swashbuckling adventures, historical dramas, or just good storytelling, Les Trois Mousquetaires: Milady promises an engaging cinematic experience.
