Hello, My Movievaures! I’m so excited to be back this week to speak about one of the most expected movies of the year: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was nearly impossible not to hear about this release, even for those who don’t really follow the Marvel Cinematic universe. I was really excited to go and see this movie, mainly because I was certain the visual experience was going to be great on a big screen, but without any further expectation. So, was it an good Marvel experience? Well… it depends. But before getting at it, let’s start with the non-spoiler part:

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes just after the events from Spider Man No Way Home and WandaVision, where we’ve already followed the main characters on this story: Doctor Strange and Wanda. Both with a strong link to the multiverse and personal stakes that will put in question what is right and good. This movie is not perfect, for sure, with some plot shortcuts and excessively choreographed fight scenes, but overall I think it is a great movie, if not one of the best in this universe. The plot is engaging, the visuals and production are way better than what Marvel usually does with Sam Raimi’s touch and most of the characters are gripping.

It is not a surprise that Marvel has created a cinematic experience that links so many incredible storylines. I love this, but I know that many people are not fund of this, mainly because they feel forced to watch other shows and movies. In this case, if you haven’t watched at least WandaVision, you will miss most of the stakes and emotional grip of this new story. Wanda is the main antagonist and I feel like Elizabeth Olsen did an amazing job portraying this character and bringing her to the next level. I’m only a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see how she completely gave herself to the darkhold and left behind the women full of regret from WandaVision.

As I said before, this movie was directed by none other than Sam Raimi and it is quite obvious, especially when it comes to Wanda’s horrific scenes. It was absolutely refreshing to see something different; new visual ideas and transitions that changes from the usual greyish and monotonous Marvel scenes. Some would probably say that with such a great director and high potential plot, this movie should have exploited better the possibility of different types of universes and versions of our main characters. However, I think it might have been a bit too messy to add many characters, even though some plot shortcuts could have probably been avoided.

In short, I would say that what is actually quite negative for this movie are the high expectations everyone put on it. When we check the reviews online we can see two groups: those who loved it, saying it is one of the best Marvel movies and those who hated it. What is quite funny is that those who enjoyed this 2nd Doctor Strange movie are those who liked Thor Ragnarok, another original and different Marvel movie. I believe that this movie has many good ideas and a good character development. It is not perfect, especially when it tries to play the fan service card (yes, I’m talking about the Iluminatis…). However, I still think it’s a well done movie and I recommend it!
