The In Between

Hello, My Movievaures! I hope you had a good week. I’m back with a new movie review: The In Between. I was hoping to finally write a positive article, but unfortunately, this is not the day. Once again, Netflix has decided to invest in another teenager drama that has no substance at all. So…Let’s get into it. But before that, the non-spoiler section:

The In Between just adds up to the long list of boring, non-original teenage love dramas. It’s such a deja-vu, but worse: bad acting, no characters’ consistency, chaotic editing, and awful dialogues are just a few characteristics of this movie. I wasn’t expecting much, but it still manages to disappoint me. This is only another example of the sad path Netflix is taking and the reason why they’ve lost many subscribers lately.

I’m not going to lie, I’m actually tired to see so much bad content on the platform lately so this article will not be long, thus there is not much to say. I know many people praise Joey King’s performance, but I believe she’s always portraying the same type of characters. Indeed, Tessa is not Elle from The Kissing Booth, but she seems to be always playing the quirky, rebellious, and talented teenager who falls in love. Therefore, I was absolutely not impressed by her acting, nor by her character who was pretty much annoying.

Again, there is not much to add about the other actors and characters who were flat and uninteresting. Something that also doesn’t help the movie is the lack of real connexion between the two main characters, which is all we should be caring about as it is supposed to be a love story. They tried to “explain” their feelings for each other through many (too many) flashbacks, but without any success. It was just not convincing at all.

Don’t get me started also on the supernatural part. Indeed, It was my mistake not to read in more detail what the whole story was about so I wasn’t expecting this whole “in between” limbo plot. However, the issue is not the spiritual side of the movie, but again how they portray this with some stereotypical actions like radios turning on by themselves, or seeing things through pictures… Like come on, is like they didn’t even try…

Well, this is all for today My Movievaures! Again my apologies for this new review that doesn’t really help you find good content, but at least I can warn you and save you from wasting 2 hours watching this movie. In any case, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram (the_movievaures) for more news and I’ll see you next week for a new article – HOPEFULLY, this time on something that I didn’t hate watching!
