Pieces of her: another thriller drama…

Hello, My Movievaures! I hope you had a good week. I’m back with a new Netflix thriller: Pieces of her. I know it was pretty obvious I wasn’t going to be as excited while watching this show as with The Batman, but I was indeed very disappointed. I don’t really know why I was expecting more from this show, but if I need to summarize it will be just another forgettable thriller drama. Let me tell you why!

In short, I’m probably getting a lot of hate from the book’s fans, but Pieces of her is not an original thriller. Don’t get me wrong, there are some bits that get you excited, but nothing really crazy. This is not only due to the plot though, but its execution. Toni Collette and Jessica Barden are both really good in their characters, even though it seems hard to believe they are portraying the same character. The rest are forgettable or worse, bad performances. Overall, I don’t recommend this show, except if you really have nothing else to watch.

There is actually not much to say about this show other than what I said before in the nonspoilers section. I know the whole point of it was to create a sense of mystery around Laura and her past, but most of it was quite predictable. However, the worse part of the show was uncovering the truth through Andy’s eyes. Not only Bella Heathcote does not deliver a convincing performance, but her character is also annoying as hell: uninteresting, mindless, and flat.

Even the relationships don’t seem real, even staged I would say. There are no real connections except maybe between Jane (aka Laura) and her father. The rest is just boring to watch on screen. Even the last reveal, which is supposed to be this huge revelation, even though I didn’t see it coming straight away, didn’t seem to be something important. It was just there to play the YOU ARE GOING TO BE SHOCKED card, without any real purpose as there were no consequences whatsoever.

This is all for today My Movievaures! Let me know in the comments down below your thoughts on this show if you’ve already watched it. I hope I’ll be back next week with a more positive review on this blog. In the meantime, follow me on Instagram for more news and live reactions.
