Hello, My Movievaures! I hope you had an amazing Christmas and Happy New year !!
I’m so excited to start this year with a new article on one of my favorite 2019 TV Show: The Mandalorian. I started writing it on the 31st of December as I just finished the show this week and had trouble choosing between starting with this one or The Witcher. Then I remembered I was a Star Wars fan so, of course, I will debut 2020 with this amazing show.
As you may know, The Mandalorian takes place in the Star Wars universe. In fact, just after the event of Return of the Jedi and the fall of the Empire. This show is mostly based on Mando’s life, the main character who is a Mandalorian; a group of incredible warriors who were decimated by the empire. Only a few remains and most of them became bounty hunters. The whole plot starts when Mando (aka Pedro Pascal) accepts a mission in which he needs to retrieve some package for a group of people working for the falling empire. Of course, as he is one of the best bounty hunters of the universe, he manages to reach his goal, only to discover that it was, in fact, a baby Yoda. This must not be a surprise for anyone as it was one of the most trendy things of 2020 and it has its reasons. Baby Yoda is ADORABLE, and actually, we tend to believe that Mando thinks that too as he renounces to his money and makes himself an outcast by saving him from the hands of the Empire.
That is where all starts and let me tell you, each episode is amazing. It’s a mix between incredible fights, a cow boy’s ambiance, so much cuteness from Baby Yoda and the main character so cool that I actually shouted of excitement every time he overcame adversity. I read multiple times that the whole show was like a Far West/Clint Eastwood type of movie, but in a Star Wars universe and I completely agree with that. Actually, if you think about it, the environment is very similar to the landscapes and aliens we see in the first Star Wars movies and I absolutely loved the fact that they kept this consistency knowing it’s meant to happen in the following years after the death of Darth Vader.
Moreover, the whole mystery behind Baby Yoda’s origins and powers, as well as Mando’s background (and hate for droids) keeps the infatuation going, helped by really good side characters such as Cara Dune (aka Gina Carano) or Kuiil (“I have spoken”). The connexion also, that builds throughout the show between Mando and BY (= baby Yoda) is very emotional with quick scenes of maximum cuteness in which Mando softness is revealed. Something that is actually incredible is knowing that BY is a real marionette. Sometimes you can see it, but the creators really managed to make it look very real. When you see the success it had on the internet, you know they succeded. Furthermore, Pedro Pascal also does an amazing job by playing this whole dark, serious and deadly character but with a big heart and strong values. He manages to express feelings, even though we only see his face once… The good news, there will be a second season!!
In short, The Mandalorian is one of the best shows of 2019, and I’m not saying this because I’m a Star Wars lover, but because it is true. Of course, you need to like a little bit the genre, but it has everything: amazing characters, a solid plot, violent combats, good humor, emotional attachment, and such good music. If you haven’t watched it yet, what are you waiting for?!
That is all for today my Movievaures! Next week I’ll be back with The Witcher review. In the meantime, feel free to comment and comment on this article and let me know what you think about the Mandalorian!
